November 2011
On 8 November, we welcomed several new members and moved to a new venue for the evening, Aura Commerce & Technology Centre. Aura’s Carole Orgles gave us a brief introduction to the centre’s facilities and, at the end of the meeting, showed some of the members around the building. Thanks to Carole who sponsored the meeting, which means that almost all of the income from entrance fees will be added to the fund for this year’s chosen charity.

Don't forget that the closing date for Christmas Party tickets is Monday 14 November and that all reserved tickets must be paid for in full by Friday 18 November. Tickets are still available – if you would like to join the party, please email me as soon as possible.

The AGM, on Tuesday 10 January, will once again be hosted by Chattertons – full details will be circulated after the Christmas Party.

If you would like to nominate a local charity for 2012, please email me with details. Nomination forms for chairman, vice-chairman and treasurer are now available on request – nominations should be made no later than Tuesday 3 January 2012.

Plans are being made for an event to promote WIN membership, hopefully to be held in March or April 2012. This will take the form of a drop-in evening; members will be encouraged to bring friends along and, subject to the suitability of the venue, we hope to have a limited number of stands for members to offer taster treatments, sell products, etc.

Looking ahead to the summer, the committee would like to hear your suggestions for the July and August socials. In July, we are looking at something similar to this year's ghost walk – ideas include a private tour of Southwell Workhouse, a treasure trail in Newark or Rufford and a visit to the Museum Resource Centre. And if you have ideas for August, as an alternative to the Wine Quiz at Ann et Vin, please let us know.

November’s speaker was Jacqui Thompson of Pulse, a Lincolnshire-based company which runs CSI-style forensic science workshops in schools and as team-building exercises for businesses. A Dragon’s Den survivor, Jacqui is also a CEOP (Child Exploitation and Online Protection) volunteer; she encouraged anyone with children to visit the CEOP website and watch their videos. After describing her experience on Dragon’s Den and explaining the work of CEOP, Jacqui demonstrated various finger-printing techniques which members were then able to try for themselves. At the end of the session, all of the members left with a unique keyring encapsulating their own fingerprint!

Our website is being regularly updated, as is our Facebook page - don't forget to take a look from time to time. If your entry on the website needs amending, please contact Marilyn Sharp with details of any changes.

If you need further information about WIN activities, do get in touch with me. Otherwise, have a happy Christmas and see you in the New Year!

Best wishes
