Newark Carnival 2009

Women in Newark entered a float in the Newark carnival, for which the sun shone on our Sex and The City float. We had 4 ladies with champagne glasses (empty!!) on the float either sitting on a bed or standing next to it. One of our members had to walk alongside the float as a steward while the rest of us rode in style.

I would like to Thank Marilyn and Dave Sharp for getting the truck from Hampsons for free, Jane West for designing our banner and getting it printed for free, Louise Girling for donating the bed and Sarah Willis for all the beautiful throws we had on the bed.

I would like to Thank Charlotte, Emma, Patricia, Marilyn and Dave for giving up their time on a Sunday to be involved on what was very successful day, we certainly bought a lot of smiles and comments from the crowd.

From Carnival to Picnic and Pimms. 2 days after carnival this now yearly event this year took place in the beautiful new garden school at Floral Media where Steven and Paula have created a great place to hold an event.

38 members and friends of members attended the event and although the weather was occasionally inclement we had a very good evening. I would like to thank Sarah, Paula and Jo for helping with the catering without whom it would have been impossible to be ready on time, Elaine Ellison for taking and sorting all the money (and guiding me through the evening) and to all members who donated raffle prizes. 

I would like to thank everyone who attended and bought guest with them you will be pleased to know that we raised £348.00 for our charity on the night and I have received a further £30.00 in donations after the event from people who were unable to attend. If your friends do not receive our e-mails please pass on the news to them.

Our next event is Wine Tasting at Ann et Vin on Tuesday 11th August at 7.30 for 8pm. The event includes the tasting of a selection of wines, food afterwards and a small quiz!!  We have limited tickets to this event so please call Jo at Elaine Ellisons office on 01636 708630 to book your tickets, they are still just £10.00 per person and each member is allowed to bring a guest if numbers allow. If anyone is able to donate a raffle prize for this event please let me know.
